Upper Kittitas County holds a special place in Jeff Schafer’s heart, thanks in part to his wife, who was born and raised in the area. Jeff and his wife knew the area was the perfect place to settle down and raise their family. A great blend of natural beauty and proximity to the bustling city life of Seattle, they have never regretted putting down roots in the picturesque and welcoming community.

Jeff’s journey to becoming the owner of Merle Inc. started with an unexpected twist. After graduating from Western Washington University with a B.A. in English and aspirations of becoming a teacher, he discovered his true calling in the construction industry. While in school, he gained valuable experience working for a contracting company, where he contributed to numerous remodel and custom home projects. It was during this time that Jeff realized his passion for construction – the art of Design/Build, collaborating as a team, and delivering high-quality, enduring homes that families would treasure forever.

Jeff’s extensive experience in contracting and trade work served as the catalyst for his entrepreneurial ambitions.  He moved to Cle Elum in 2004 and started Merle Inc. in 2005.

Jeff Schafer’s dedication to creating exceptional custom homes and his commitment to Upper Kittitas County are at the core of Merle Inc.’s success. With a passion for construction and a love for the area, he leads his team in shaping dream homes and making lasting memories for families in the Pacific Northwest.

An active and dedicated father, Jeff spends his free time coaching his teenage sons, Waylon and Jake. They also enjoy participating in weekend 10Ks and other activities as a family. Jeff is very active in the community. He values opportunities to build lasting friendships in Cle Elum by sponsoring community events and fundraisers through Merle Inc.
